Not done yet: more new business growth for Derby

The last decade of growth and prosperity has begun to slow in the bedroom community of Derby, but residents have another construction project to look forward to – Derby Rock Centre.

Following the city’s successful development of its Rock Road corridor, HT Properties LLC is beginning construction on a mixed-used building next to Emprise Bank, located at Rock Road and Patriot Avenue.

The 13,500-square-foot project is expected to be completed this year at a cost of $850,000.

Design of the retail strip center is being handled by Wichita architect Chad Glenn’s 3 Ten Studio, with general construction by Walz Harman Huffman Construction Inc. Andover State Bank has agreed to provide financing.

Two tenants have already signed up for the Derby Rock Centre location, orthodontist Justin Trimmel, who is a partner in HT Properties, and Paul Huffman, CEO of Walz Harman Huffman.

This will be the third location for Trimmel’s Wichita-based business, Trimmel & Anders Orthodontics LLC, which has been searching for a suitable location in Derby for months. He’ll be the first tenant when he opens Derby Orthodontics, occupying 3,000 square feet of the location.

Five more units of Derby Rock Centre remain open for tenants. According to the contractor, one end of the building will feature a drive-thru, and could host a restaurant or coffee shop.
