Kansas ranks in top five of 2015 Governor’s Cup
KANSAS — The State of Kansas ranked in the Top Five in three categories in the 2015 Governor’s Cup. The results, which were published in Site Selection magazine, revealed the state’s growing economic presence in the region and the nation.
“Kansas’ top ranked position in various categories of the 2015 Governor’s Cup reflects the rising economic and business climate in Kansas,” said Kansas Commerce Secretary Antonio Soave. “The Department of Commerce works on many projects throughout the year that benefit both the business and the economy of the state. We will continue to work hard to see the business environment in Kansas grow year-after-year.”
In the 2015 Governor’s Cup, Kansas ranked fifth in the nation by projects per capita. In the West North Central region, Kansas placed second in project rankings per capita, with 93 facilities. Kansas also placed second in the West North Central region for project rankings total facilities, with 93 facilities.
The Governor’s Cup recognizes the top performing states for capital investment attraction that year. The Governor’s Cup reflects yearly project totals, which are tracked by the Conway Project Database. According to Site Selection, qualifying projects in a state must meet one or more of these criteria for inclusion in the database: a minimum capital investment of $1 million, 20 or more new jobs created, and 20,000 or more square feet of new space.
